Carnival Liberty first cruise ship to dock at the new cruise pier facility

With all three catwalks, the dolphins and the north eastern side of the dock ready for berthing, the Carnival Cruise Line (CCL) ship, Carnival Liberty became the first cruise ship to dock at the new cruise pier facility in Road Town on Saturday, March 28, one month ahead of completion of both sides of the dock.

Meridian joined the Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. D. Orland Smith, and Minister of Communications and Works, Hon. Mark Vanterpool to welcome the ship to the Virgin Islands with 3,200 persons onboard.
The final phase which includes the placement of the last pre-cast slabs will be completed in time for the official opening on April 29, when the BVI will host Norwegian Cruise Line, Getaway, one of the larger classes of ships now on stream.

The pier has been lengthened to 1,039 feet, with mooring dolphins adding 273 feet, giving a total of 1,312 feet of berthing space.

Once completed, the pier will be 60 feet wide, and will accommodate two ships of 180,000 gross registered tonnage.
